Spirit Animal Guides
You definitely don't have to be or have a shaman to have a spirit guide in your life. Woot, woot! Today, let's explore the different types of animal guides, and next week I will share how I came to find my own. Even though I don't consider myself an expert in this subject quite yet, my personal preference is to let your animal guide choose you. (I feel the same way about crystals – check out our post on how to let crystals choose you here.)
First, here's a little background: Animals and humans not only live together in the physical world, but also in the spirit world. In Shamanism, animal guides are known as power animals, and these beings help, protect, heal, inspire and educate your along your journey through life. Some people also call this an animal totem or animal medicine. Animal spirit guides can be represented by symbols or can simply be those animals that you feel that you carry a personal connection with.
Four types of animal guides
The Messenger This guide will usually appear in order to guide or warn you of a specific situation. It will stay with your until that message is received or you have passed the warning safely.
Journey Spirit Need to make a big decision that might change the course of your life? Look to this journey guide to help you choose the course. This guide is known to appear when you are at a crossroads, or when you come to a fork in the road. The thing about this animal is that it sticks with you through the long haul. The journey could take years, and you can count on this animal to remain by your side until your journey is complete.
Life Guide This guide is with you throughout your entire life and serves as a reflection of who and what you are. This guide represents your strengths and natural abilities. These guides often times surface as an animal you had an affinity for as a small child, and in your adulthood appears around you frequently in life and in dreams.
Shadow Spirit This guide often times instills fear. This is an energy that tests you, and will come into your life when you need to make a change in a certain area of your life. It represents your inner fears and will likely keep reappearing until you manifest positive changes.
Once you connect with your animal spirit guide, keep in mind of their survival and predatory characteristics. These attributes are guiding you to grow and will guide you down a positive course in life.
