Hi! Welcome to My So-Called Cosmic Life!

We are figuring this out together, and may not always get it right on the first try, but we hope this blog inspires you to listen to the signs the universe sends you, and helps you to feel empowered to pave your own unique path.

Reading Energy

Reading Energy

"My lifetime listens to yours." -Muriel Rukeyser

The second week of Expanding Your Intuition was all about reading energy and connecting with our guides. I'll leave the guides for another time.

The energy stuff is pretty great. We all give and receive energy all day long, whether we're trying to or not. Most of the time, we aren't consciously doing this. It's automatic; we just feel it. This class was all about actively and consciously listening to what someone's energy can tell us. We paired up and sat face to face, knees touching with our partner. I was paired with a woman who I didn't know. I actually didn't even remember her name. We decided I would read her energy first. We each held a piece of selenite, mine in my right hand for receiving and hers in her left hand for giving.

I have to say, I was not feeling confident in my abilities. I was feeling a migraine coming on, I felt overheated, and pretty anxious about telling a stranger what I thought her energy was like. I really wanted to give this a go though so I tried to relax.

I planted my feet firmly on the ground and began to breathe deeply, all the way through my feet, grounding myself. I closed my eyes, and pictured my partner, but not just as a physical being, but as an energy being as well. I pictured her chakras, starting with the root chakra and working my way up. I honestly wasn't getting much. I kept getting distracted by the conversations around me. Everyone seemed to be seemlessly reading their partners. Meanwhile, I was sweating and felt a little nauseous. I re-centered and continued. As I started focusing on my partners heart chakra, I began to see a green light in my mind. I stayed with this energy, and noticed a blackness starting to cover up the green. The green light seemed to spread and looked as though it was trying to get around the blackness. I opened my eyes and told my partner what I was seeing. I told her it felt like it might be good for her to meditate on her heart chakra, that it felt like something wanted to be released. To my surprise, she said this totally made sense to her!

My partner then read my energy. She said she was seeing pain in my knees. I was born with crooked knee caps and my knees often ache, so this was spot on. She was silent for a while after the knee thing and then opened her eyes and said "I'm getting pain in your breasts?" I immediately felt myself wanting to validate her. "I'll be PMSing soon," I said, "I always have painful breasts when I PMS." I realized what I was doing and made a note to keep my people pleasing in check. She also said she saw a really interesting time approaching for me and that it feels like my summer will be exciting. That was cool to hear. When everyone was done we all shared a gift we had received from the experience.

I realize all of this could apply to a lot of people. I mean, who couldn't benefit from a little heart work? And I'm sure a lot of women share my sore PMS boobs. Still, I feel like this was a pretty special experience. The opportunity to sit across from a stranger and really see them and to really feel seen by someone is so rare, so I'm feeling grateful.

This is an exercise I definitely want to keep practicing. Not just with strangers, because I'm an introvert and asking a stranger to let me read their energy sounds terrifying, but with people I know and love. I want to consciously make an effort to see and feel them and to validate their energy.

I recommend giving it a try. The selenite is a nice touch but not necessary. Take 10 minutes, sit down with someone, and see what you feel from each other. Don't be discouraged if what you say isn't a yes right away, just keep listening.
